North Carolina men’s basketball coach Roy Williams provided a glowing endorsement to Brother Rice athletic director Phil Cahill back in May of 2015 when he was told the school was going to hire Bobby Frasor as its basketball coach.
“You hit a home run,” Williams said.
High praise coming from a college coach who has an 812-216 record during a 29-year career.
Williams knew Frasor’s potential as coach better than most. He had recruited Frasor, a McDonald’s All-American, out of Brother Rice in 2005 and coached him for four seasons at North Carolina, winning an NCAA national championship in 2009.
It didn’t take Frasor, the Daily Southtown 2016-17 Boys Basketball Coach of the Year, very long to live up to Williams’ lofty endorsement.
