Mike Condon, Br. Rice High School Class of ’68 and a St. John Fisher lad, was also a huge sports fan—Sox, Bulls, Hawks, Cheetahs, Notre Dame—we even went to a few Cubs games when the tickets were free.
Mike had spinal fusion surgery, and his recovery was slow; so instead of going to a Sox game, we went to watch a Cubs day game at a friend’s house in July. He was already sick of Genius Joe Maddon and stated that he thought the “Orange One” would win, explaining that so many white guys were unhappy and they thought a businessman would lead them back to the promised land of the ’50s.
