2018 Junior of the Year David Wolf ’19 aspires to be a “Renaissance Man”. Ranked 23rd in his class with a GPA of 4.39, David is now a National Honors Society vice president in his third year as a member. David is the producer and stage-crew manager for Drama Club (4 years), and a member of Lyrical Fight Club (4 years). David ran for the Cross Country team for two years, and this year is a captain. As a member of the track and field team, David won an indoor and outdoor team title for the Chicago Catholic League. David is also a member of Brother Rice T.V. where he acts as on-air and off-air talent. Away from sports and clubs, David has been a camp counselor and leader for Edmund Rice Camp for 2 years. He also attended the Kairos 144 retreat. Last summer, David volunteered in Harlan, Kentucky, with the Queen of Martyrs youth ministry, where he spent a week building houses for lower income families. Most recently, David has been working on applying to colleges, favoring Marquette in pursuit of a business degree.
Liam Coughlin ’19 is proud to call himself a Crusader. He has been a member of the National Honor Society (4 years), Scholastic Bowl (4 years), and has been the vice president of Politics Club (2 years). He is also the head of mechanical engineering on the Brother Rice Robotics Team, which placed 9th this past year in an international competition. For the past three years, Liam has been a counselor at Edmund Rice Camp. He is thankful to have participated in Kairos 142, and he now serves as a peer minister. By the time he finishes his senior year, he will have completed six Advanced Placement courses. He currently holds a 4.93 weighted GPA and is ranked 3rd in his class, and he has scored a perfect 36 on the ACT. Liam hopes to pursue a degree in aerospace engineering.
Tom Gallagher ‘19 is the son of alumnus Tom ’79. As a sophomore, Tom finished 3rd in the Larry Platt ’68 Essay Contest, earning $3,000 in scholarship funds sponsored by Larry. For four years, Tom has been a member of the Brother Rice soccer team. Tom continues to play on the volleyball team that won a regional championship last year. Tom has also been a member of NHS, serving as vice president his junior and senior years, and he is a member of the executive board of the Student Council. Tom participates in Politics Club, Spanish Club, Peer Ministry, Kairos, Crusader Crazies, Brother Rice Ambassadors, and Brother Rice TV, and he will be an Edmund Rice Camp counselor for his third year. This camp allows grammar school kids who cannot afford a week long summer camp to enjoy a great experience. Outside of Brother Rice, Tom is a board member for the Live Like John Service and Leadership Institute, which is a group of high school students working to raise money and awareness for pediatric brain cancer research. He has also spent his previous two summers on a mission trip to Harlan, Kentucky, and intends to go back this year. Tom currently holds a 4.85 GPA and is ranked number 5 in his class. Tom hopes to study biomedical engineering in college.
Tim Novick ’19 holds a 4.53 GPA and is ranked 16th in his class, achieving superior honor roll three out of six semesters. Timothy has been a member of the National Honor Society since his sophomore year and is currently serving as a vice president. He has been an Edmund Rice Camp counselor for three years and will be an art leader this year. Timothy has been a member of the Robotics team (2 years), Politics Club (2 years), Advocacy Club (2 years) and Lyrical Fight Club (1 year). He is a peer minister and has been a lector at Most Holy Redeemer for four years. Timothy attended Kairos 144 as a candidate and has had the honor of leading Kairos 146. He has been a member of Queen of Martyrs Youth Ministry for 1 year and is a leader for the CRHP 8 retreat. Timothy also traveled to Harlan, Kentucky, with Queen of Martyrs Youth Ministry for a mission trip for 1 week to help build homes for families in need. He has been a caddie at Beverly Country Club for 4 years. Timothy has been involved in scouting since 1st grade and is awaiting his board of review for the rank of Eagle Scout. During his junior year, Timothy was honored to receive the John Hosty Award. He has been a member of the golf team (2 years), and the volleyball team (4 years) in which he was a captain of the JV team. Timothy plans to pursue a college degree in engineering at Marquette, Purdue or University of Illinois.
Matt Reidy ’19 is proud to call himself a Crusader for life. Matt has participated in Brother Rice TV, Advocacy Club, Crusader Crazies, Spanish Club, and Kairos. Matt has been a part of the soccer program for four years and served as team captain during his sophomore season. As a freshman, Matt participated in basketball and volleyball. Since sophomore year, Matt has also been a member of the track and field team. Matt also excels in the classroom, holding a 4.37 GPA and is ranked 24th in his class. Since freshman year, Matt has been a member of the Student Council, having served as secretary as a junior on the executive board and is currently the Student Council vice president. Matt has been a member of the National Honor Society since his freshman year. As a junior, Matt was voted to be NHS vice president and now is president. Matt is a three-year camp counselor for Edmund Rice Camp and will be on the leadership committee this upcoming summer. He remains active in his grammar school parish of Queen of Martyrs, having attended a mission trip to Harlan, Kentucky, the past three summers. Matt is currently weighing his college options and plans to major in business.
